Can I Request An Adjustment Of The Increase In My Medicare Premiums Caused By IRMAA?

I am retired but received severance pay in 2021. Medicare IRMAA Part B was increased based on your 2021 income tax return but I am retired.
I was wondering if I can request an adjustment to this decision.

THANKS
KEN

Hi Ken. Yes, if you had a spike in income resulting from retirement, then you could ask Social Security to use your income from a more recent year on which to base your Medicare premiums. To do that, you'll need to complete and submit a form SSA-44 (https://www.ssa.gov/forms/ssa-44-ext.pdf). If you have any questions with regard to completion of the form, you can call or visit a Social Security office for assistance.

Best, Jerry
