Can I Keep My Private Medical Provider When I Turn 62?

Hi Larry,
Thank you....
I am on Permanent Disability now (SSDI),
I will be turning 62 next April of 2022...
I read up on Social Security literatures and also was ably to access the “Calculator” for future amounts and age breakdown....
So as of right now, social security is DEDUCTED $140.00 monthly and additional 20.00 for Kaiser Permanente Hospital, which has been my Medical provider for decades even when I was still employed at Bank of America....
So my question is, CAN I KEEP MY PRIVATE MEDICAL PROVIDER WHEN I TURN 62 until the end of my life? I have had all these doctors for decades.... I have a continuing medical condition , “R A” Rheumatoid Arthritis,
Not life threatening but is disabling physically...
Kindly advice,
I just want to be proactive about my situation...
Sincerely,
Joy

Hi Joy,

If you've been receiving Social Security disability (SSDI) benefits for at least 2 years, then I assume that the larger deduction from your benefit payments is your Part B Medicare premium. Medicare coverage can continue for life as long as you pay the required premiums, and reaching age 62 wouldn't change anything about your Medicare coverage.

I don't know what kind of coverage you're receiving from Kaiser Pemanente Hospital, but if it's a Medicare supplement plan then you should be able to continue that coverage permanently. However, if it's some other type of private coverage as opposed to a Medicare supplement plan then you'll likely need to check with your insurance provider to find out the terms of your coverage.

Best, Jerry
