Would My Divorced Spousal Rate Increase At FRA If I Started Drawing Before FRA?
As I understand it, even though I am collecting ssdi, at age 62 I am entitled to a percentage of my ex's retirement benefit? Will this benefit increase when my own benefit switches over to regular retirement from ssdi?
Hi,
No, it won't. Regardless of the fact that you're already drawing SSDI, if you become eligible for and start drawing a divorced spousal benefit before your full retirement age (FRA) the reduction percentage applied to your divorced spousal rate will be permanent. That reduction percentage would not, however, carry over to your survivor benefit rate if your ex-husband dies first.
Best, Jerry
