Would The Fact That My Wife Just Sold A House Affect My Ability To Apply For Disability?
I had 3 heart attack and want to apply for disability but my wife just sold a house and gave her son $100000 as a gift do we have to pay taxes on that and will this affect my ability to apply to disability.
Hi. My expertise is limited to Social Security benefits, so I'm unable to answer questions about taxes. The fact that your wife sold a house wouldn't hinder your ability to qualify for Social Security disability (SSDI) benefits, nor any other type of Social Security benefit.
The only type of benefit that Social Security administers that could be affected by changes in a person's assets and unearned income is Supplemental Security Income (SSI). SSI is needs based, so eligibility for that program depends on a person's income and resources.
