Will Our Child Get Social Security Benefits?

I am 67. My wife is 23. We have been married for five years. We are going to use donor sperm threw the houspital to get her , pregnant. I get $1150.00 from Social Security each month .willlll i get a check each month for the child and if so. How much will it be

Hi,

It sounds like the child would qualify for child's benefits on your record, and your wife could potentially qualify for child-in-care spousal benefits as well. The benefit rate for such auxiliary benefits is 50% of the worker's full retirement age rate (PIA), but would be subject to a maximum family payment (https://www.ssa.gov/OACT/COLA/familymax.html). For more information on family benefits, refer to Social Security's website: https://www.ssa.gov/planners/retire/applying7.html.

Best, Jerry
