Will I Get My Maximum Rate If I Stop Working At Age 62?
If I retire at 62 and collect my pension, and don't claim my SS benefits until 66 2 months without working for those 4 years will I get my max SSN benefit which is around 2700.00 per month.Thank You
Hi,
Your Social Security retirement benefit rate is calculated based on your highest 35 years of work-adjusted earnings (https://www.ssa.gov/pubs/EN-05-10070.pdf). So, if you stop work at age 62, your eventual benefit rate would not be as high as it would have been had you continued working and paying into Social Security at the maximum level.
Best, Jerry
