I'm 63 10yrs older than my husband of 25 yrs. I lack 6 credits to be eligible for s.s. .Will I be eligible for ssi when I turn 65 if my husband makes to much .Can I divorce my husband for 2yrs. and still live with him to be eligible
Hi. The earliest that you could be eligible for spousal benefits on your current husband's account is effective with the first month he starts drawing his Social Security retirement or disability benefits (https://www.ssa.gov/OP_Home/handbook/handbook.03/handbook-0305.html).
Even if you divorce your husband, the only way that you could qualify for divorced spousal benefits while your ex-spouse is still living is if he is a) either drawing Social Security retirement or disability benefits, or b) if he is at least age 62 and if your divorce has been final for at least 2 years (https://www.ssa.gov/OP_Home/handbook/handbook.03/handbook-0311.html).
