Why did I get a special deposit from social security today I received $18 today from SSAI just wanna make sure that it's good can you help me I tried calling social security but there's a hour and 20 minute wait
Hi,
I don't really know why you would have received such a payment, but this is the time of year that Social Security recomputes benefit rates to credit earnings from the previous year. So, if you had earnings in 2018, or if you are receiving auxiliary (e.g. spousal) benefits and the worker on whose record you're drawing benefits had earnings in 2018, then the payment you received could represent back pay for a small benefit increase.
In any case, Social Security should send you a notice in the mail explaining the extra payment within 2 weeks.
