Why did i get a deposit to my account today
Hi. I have no way of knowing, but this is around the time of year that Social Security normally does their automated benefit recomputations. So, if you had Social Security covered earnings last year then you may have been due a rate increase that has just been processed, which could result in a lump sum payment of back pay. Or, it may be something totally different.
In any case, Social Security sends notices explaining payments like the one you apparently received, so you should get a notice in the mail within about 2 weeks. If you don't, or if the notice doesn't adequately explain the payment, you can call Social Security to try to get a better explanation.
