Should My Husband's Benefit Rate Have Increased When His Children And I Stopped Receiving Benefits?
My husband and I have an age difference of about 22 years. At one point I was getting young mothers benefits and we were getting benefits for our kids as well. I recall that my husbands benefit decreased during this time period. Since we are no longer getting the other benefits as our kids are now adults, shouldn't my husbands monthly benefit have increased?
Hi,
No. The entitlement of a wife and children to benefits on a worker's record has no effect on the worker's own benefit rate. If your husband's benefit rate decreased during the time that you were drawing benefits, it would have been for some reason unrelated to your and your children's eligibility.
Best, Jerry
