If I Marry Again Will My New Wife Be Eligible For Widow's Benefits Upon My Death?

I am 69 , waiting for 70 to claim social security. I was married for 40 years, divorced 7 years ago, my ex (she never worked outside of home) has been receiving SS since she reached 62.
I am planning to marry again, my fiance is 62 . If I were to die sooner rather than latter will she be eligible to collect SS as a widow (my benefits will be significantly higher than hers)
If yes how long after the marriage is she eligible ?

Hi. Yes, your new wife could potentially qualify for widow's benefits in the event of your death even if your former spouse is also eligible for survivor benefits from your account. To be eligible for widow's benefits the surviving spouse must normally have been married to the deceased for at least 9 months, although a shorter marriage can qualify if an accidental death is involved (https://www.ssa.gov/OP_Home/handbook/handbook.04/handbook-0404.html), or if the deceased worker and the surviving spouse had a child together (https://www.ssa.gov/OP_Home/handbook/handbook.04/handbook-0401.html).

Also, if your new spouse claims survivor benefits prior to her full retirement age (FRA), her widow's rate would be reduced for age and her benefits would be subject to full or partial withholding if she works and earns too much (https://www.ssa.gov/benefits/retirement/planner/whileworking.html).

Best, Jerry
