If I Give My Payee Money For Living, How Much Will Be Deducted From Her SSI?
My payee is disabled and receives $800 per month in SSI. If I give her money for living (eg.. $200 per mont) how much will be deducted from her SS payment .
Hi,
As the name implies, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is designed to supplement the income of individuals who meet the program's requirements (https://www.ssa.gov/ssi/). If an SSI recipient receives countable unearned income, their SSI benefits are offset dollar for dollar by all but the first $20 of the unearned income. Therefore, assuming that they have no other income, if you gave an SSI recipient $200 per month their monthly SSI payment would likely be reduced by $180.
