How Are My Social Security Taxes Paid To Social Security?
How is my SS deduction and the company's contribution paid to Social Security? Also, is there a way to check out my SS account for the current year (2017)?
Hi,
Social Security taxes are collected by the IRS, not Social Security. Social Security isn't notified of a worker's earnings until the year is over and the employer issues a W-2 form. Social Security receives a copy of the W-2 form and uses that information to post the appropriate earnings to the worker's Social Security earnings record. Therefore, none of your 2017 earnings will be posted to your earnings record until after Social Security receives your W-2 form(s) in the first part of 2018.
Best, Jerry
