Can We Request Benefits On My Husband's Behalf If He Can't Do It Himself?

If my husband cannot ask for benefits as a developmentally disabled adult and being married. Can we request the benefit, and request a hardship exemption?

Hi,

Adults must normally file for benefits themselves but if your husband is incapable of doing so or has been judged legally incompetent then you may be able to file for benefits on his behalf. For more information on the rules regarding filing for benefits on another person's behalf, refer to the following reference from Social Security's operations manual: https://secure.ssa.gov/apps10/poms.nsf/lnx/0200204003.
