Can A Person On Disablity Also Receive Railroad Benefits?

Is it possible for a person on disability to receive and or have the railroad fund?

Hi,

Yes, it's possible to receive both Social Security disability benefits (SSDI) and Railroad Retirement (RR)benefits, but you would have to meet the requirements for both programs. And, if you do qualify for benefits from both programs, the RR Retirement Board would offset your tier 1 RR benefits by the amount of your SSDI benefit. In other words, you could only receive the higher of a) your SSDI benefit amount or b) your tier 1 RR amount, not both. You could, however, also be paid any tier 2 RR benefits for which you qualify.

Best, Jerry
