Can I Receive Spousal Benefits At Age 62?
My wife is 66 collecting social security I'm 61. AT 62 can I collect on any of hers or do I need to file my own at 62.
Hi,
Whenever you filed for spousal benefits, you would be deemed to also be applying for benefits on your own record. So, the only way that you will receive any spousal benefits is if your wife's full retirement age benefit rate is more than twice as much as your own. And if you start benefits at age 62, your benefit rate will be reduced by more than 25% from your full retirement age rate.
Best, Jerry
